{"id":117,"date":"2015-04-04T19:14:13","date_gmt":"2015-04-04T18:14:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.roessing.org\/?p=117"},"modified":"2025-05-24T17:31:23","modified_gmt":"2025-05-24T16:31:23","slug":"list-of-the-aircraft-types-i-had-the-pleasure-to-travel-with","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.roessing.org\/?p=117","title":{"rendered":"List of the aircraft types I had the pleasure to travel with"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Just for the records: A list of the aircraft types I had the pleasure to travel with \u2013 yet.<\/p>\n<h3>Airbus<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><a title=\"A300\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Airbus_A300\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>A300<\/strong><\/a> \u2013 used it several times to get to London (2005), Berlin, Munich, Hamburg. One of the most comfortable aircrafts I ever boarded. It is a pity that Lufthansa stopped operating this model a couple of years ago.<\/li>\n<li><a title=\"A310\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Airbus_A310\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>A310<\/strong><\/a> \u2013 several trips to London in the 1990s.<\/li>\n<li><strong>A319, <a title=\"A320-Family\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Airbus_A320_family\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">A320<\/a><\/strong> \u2013 several journeys in Europe.<\/li>\n<li><strong>A321<\/strong> \u2013 several times, including trips to Rome (2011), Porto (2010), Barcelona (2013), and from Minneapolis to St. Louis with Delta (2025).<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Airbus_A330\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>A330<\/strong><\/a> \u2013 used it for flights to Cairo (2009), to Philadelphia, and from Charlotte to Frankfurt (both in 2012).<\/li>\n<li><strong><a title=\"A340\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Airbus_A340\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">A340<\/a>-300<\/strong> \u2013 has not very much power in its engines. I traveled with this model from Zurich to Chicago and back (2010) and from Boston to Frankfurt (2013).<\/li>\n<li><strong>A340-600<\/strong> \u2013 wonderful aircraft! In the version Lufthansa uses, the restrooms are downstairs, much more comfortable to use than the traditional ones. I had the honor to fly with this type of aircraft back from Cairo (2009), on both trips to and from Orlando (2012) and to Boston (2013).<\/li>\n<li><a title=\"A350\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Airbus_A350_XWB\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>A350<\/strong><\/a> &#8212; one trip from Munich to Seoul Incheon in July 2024. Nice aircraft for a long trip, yet a little small. And one trip with Delta from Atlanta to Amsterdam in 2025.<\/li>\n<li><a title=\"A380\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Airbus_A380\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>A380<\/strong><\/a> \u2013 giant aircraft, I like that. I used one to fly from Sydney to Dubai (2012) and to get to Miami and back (2014). Very silent, even in the aft section of the lower deck.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Boeing<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><a title=\"737\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Boeing_737\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">737<\/a>-300\/500<\/strong> \u2013 several trips to London, Zurich, D\u00fcsseldorf etc.<\/li>\n<li><strong>737-900 ER<\/strong> \u2013 Delta Airlines from St. Louis to Atlanta in May 2025.<\/li>\n<li><strong><a title=\"747\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Boeing_747\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">747<\/a>-400<\/strong> \u2013 to San Francisco (2007) and to Hong Kong (2012). There were no Inflight Entertaining Systems installed in Lufthansa 747-400s back then, so the flights (11 and 13 hours!) were somewhat boring.<\/li>\n<li><strong>747-8<\/strong> \u2013 to Los Angeles and back in 2014. Nice aircraft, but it is extremely noisy in the aft sections of the cabin. Still quite noisy in August 2024, during the return trip from Seoul Incheon to Frankfurt\/Main (13 hours!).<\/li>\n<li><a title=\"767\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Boeing_767\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>767<\/strong><\/a> \u2013 I used one of these to travel from London to Rome, one day after the Pope had died.<\/li>\n<li><strong><a title=\"777\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Boeing_777\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">777<\/a>-200 ER<\/strong> \u2013 from Frankfurt to Dubai in 2012.<\/li>\n<li><strong>777-300<\/strong> \u2013 from Dubai to Frankfurt on my way home from Australia (2012).<\/li>\n<li><a title=\"787\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Boeing_787_Dreamliner\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>787<\/strong><\/a> (\u201cDreamliner\u201d) \u2013 from Amsterdam to Minneapolis with KLM (2025).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Other<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><a title=\"ATR 72\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/ATR_72\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>ATR 72<\/strong><\/a> (turboprop) \u2013 several flights from Prague to Brno. Impressive acceleration.<\/li>\n<li><a title=\"BAe 146\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/British_Aerospace_146\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Bae 146<\/strong><\/a> (\u201cJumbolino\u201d) \u2013 several trips including Zurich\u2013Nice and Geneva\u2013Frankfurt.<\/li>\n<li><a title=\"Canadair CRJ\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Bombardier_CRJ200\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Canadair CRJ<\/strong><\/a> \u2013 this aircraft is way too small for my taste. Used it for example to fly from Frankfurt to D\u00fcsseldorf on Christmas Eve a couple of years ago.<\/li>\n<li>A <strong>Dornier<\/strong> turboprop aircraft \u2013 I was on the first flight from Munich to Brno in 2005. This aircraft had a very impressive acceleration!<\/li>\n<li><a title=\"Embraer ERJ 145\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Embraer_ERJ_145_family\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Embraer ERJ 145<\/strong><\/a> \u2013 used one from Swiss for the flight from Frankfurt to Zurich in 2005. It was very comfortable back then with comfortable leather seats and plenty of legroom. And: One flight from Munich to Brno and back (with the smaller 135) in November 2017. And again in 2018.<\/li>\n<li><a title=\"Embraer 190\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Embraer_E-Jet_family\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Embraer 190<\/strong><\/a> \u2013 several trips in Germany. Very comfortable aircraft, plenty of legroom.<\/li>\n<li><a title=\"Fokker\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Fokker_100\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Fokker 70\/100<\/strong><\/a> \u2013 I travelled with one of these to Amsterdam and back in 2006 (on my way to Montreal) and once from Vienna to Frankfurt.<\/li>\n<li><a title=\"MD11\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/McDonnell_Douglas_MD-11\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>MD11<\/strong><\/a> \u2013 great, majestic aircraft. KLM used one to fly me to Montreal and back in 2006. It is a pity that KLM removed this type from their fleet.<\/li>\n<li><a title=\"Saab 2000\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Saab_2000\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Saab 2000<\/strong><\/a> (turboprop) \u2013 one trip from Prague to Brno.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/de.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Cessna_172\"><strong>Cessna 172<\/strong><\/a> &#8212; 1 sightseeing flight from Baltrum over several east-frisian islands in the German north sea with my father on October 5, 2021.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Types of aircraft I hope to fly with in the future<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><a title=\"Gulfstream V\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Gulfstream_V\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Gulfstream V<\/strong><\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/de.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Airbus_A220\">Airbus A220<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Just for the records: A list of the aircraft types I had the pleasure to travel with \u2013 yet.
